We publish this comparison because people searching “alternative à Tricount” or “Tricount alternative travel” are usually planning a trip, not a shared Netflix bill. TripBudget is our product; Tricount remains a strong simple splitter.
Keep Tricount for a one-off weekend when everyone just wants a shared tab. Use TripBudget when the trip has several cities, a cash pot, or a daily budget you actually intend to follow.

Tricount’s pitch is simplicity. You create a count, share it, and stop arguing about the spreadsheet. Public 2026 round-ups still recommend it for a free European split with little ceremony. If that is the whole product you need, do not complicate it.
TripBudget is more opinionated: it assumes there is a trip, with destinations, a pace of spend, and often a shared pot. That extra structure is useful on a two-week itinerary and noisy on a single dinner.
French- and Portuguese-speaking groups often travel with a cagnotte: everyone throws money in, then the pot pays the diesel, the guesthouse, the island ferry. An expense list can approximate this if you treat “the pot” as a fake participant. That workaround breaks as soon as you exchange leftover cash or pay in a second currency.
TripBudget models the cagnotte as a first-class common pool. Contribute, convert, spend, and see what remains — including FIFO rates so the “real” euro cost of a baht dinner is not a guess.
Tricount has been widely described as free for core splitting. Confirm on their site; we do not mirror their paywall. TripBudget is freemium: identified travelers keep the free core, each person gets one Premium trip activation, then you unlock further trips (Premium for the whole group) or take a personal Premium plan.
“Complete” here means travel-complete: stages, pools, heatmap, map, CSV. It does not mean Tricount is missing a calculator. It means the jobs of a trip and the jobs of a tab are different.
The first screen is still “create a trip and add expenses”. Stages and pools are there when the itinerary needs them. You can ignore them on a one-city weekend.
You share one invite link. The landing page and /join flow send iPhone users to the App Store and Android users to Google Play, then into the trip.
The website does (EN, FR, ES, pt-BR). Comparison pages exist in English and French (including Alternative à Tricount). The app and landing are localised.
